Thanks mindnumbed - oh and your average Witness can deal with the realities of life so well - my missus would be lost without me to navigate through bureaucracy etc. So apparently the ability to analyse questions rationally, solve problems and communicate clearly are not practical skills - this anti-intellectaul mumbo jumbo is akin to Nazi book burnings and Pol Pot incarcerating teachers and people who wore glasses - the well-educated are dangerous, very dangerous

this week's wt study
by thedog1 ini conducted the wt study tonight on higher education.
i wondered what the reaction of the bros and sis would be.
there was no deviation from the idea that a university education is not a good idea.

Please allow me to apologise.
by quellycatface ini have been posting on here for a few weeks now and i know i have been quite colourful in my language.. i hope i have'nt offended anyone, if so, i am sorry.. i'm just so damn angry about everything.
i feel like an idiot.
i'd been falling for the bs for so many years.. will these feelings ever fade?.

You have good reason to be angry - you have suffered the M&M (Mislead and Manipulated) treatment from those haters of reason and education, the GB of WBTS, parading themselves as the FDS to claim to be the Supreme Being's mouthpiece - this was damaged to your psyche, yoru self-esteem and your social relationships. Go ahead and vent - we understand

Prepare for meetings??
by Jen1 indo you prepare for meetings?
if i go i spend a few minutes underlinging my books/watchtower.. i have noticed that those who do the micks especially notice when your stuff is not underlined, and comments are made after the meeting, not so gentle hints, about study and preperation!
in other words i am being told off, its usually the ones who are highly critical of everything i do, sometimes their whole family seems to be straining to see if my stuff is underlined, i know this because i heard the daughter to family wisper her watchtower is not underlined!.

So that's why the missus disappeared upstairs for an hour on Saturday night - I think she must have been shephered (reprimanded) for missing 5 Sundays in a row so has reverted to being super conscientious. The bullying drives me crazy - b@st@rds!

New World will comewith or without JWs!
by abiather inwe know how animalistic religion can become if we have a look at those religions which had political powers!
they simply executed anyone with a differing opinion.
you dont need any religion.

a blitherer - it seems you want the JWs to jump out of the frying pan into the fire - from one absurd fantasy to another. As with your other posts, your argument lacks basic reasoning as you jump from false premise to false analogy to false conclusion. Well done

SFPW - I enjoyed reading your frank comments about how you feel before meetings. Well done on tapping into your cognitive dissonance and not running away from it. Keeping growing. Fraz

I thought they had gone quiet on Higher Education being bad. The fact that they are emphasizing it again shows that they feel threatened. Critical thinking is dangerous because people who have those skills will spot the obvious holes and inconsistences in WBTS BS. I will tell the missus that to avoid the fruits of Satan she whould not ask me for money because it is earnt on the back of university qualifications but instead she should shop using her minimum wage salary. It will be interesting to see her response.

"You need to witness to her about Christmas"
by DS211 inwell thats what my wife said when my grandma stopped by for a visit and invited us to hang out with them christmas eve.
after she left, my wife said i needed to witness to her and remind her that we do nkt celebrate it and that it is the worst holiday to celebrate (actually halloween is lol).
i felt this wasnt the time to argue so i decided to tell her i would look into that.

I told my wfie that it was good enough for Rutherford from 1991 until qaat least 1926 (the date of the photo above) and according to the new light he was the one chosen by Jesus in 1919 as the FDS because he was the one providing the right spiritual food at the right time therefore by implication Jesus was giving Christmas a tick of approval! She hasn't said a thing against Xmas since.

She will not say anything unless I prompt her and she will likely do everything in her power to avoid the subject. She will probably have opened it and then as soon as she reaslizes what it is about will close it down q

Let's Talk About Sex
by cofty ina old thread was bumped recently in which posters from 9 years ago raised objections to evolution basesd on personal incredulity regarding sexual reproduction.. i remember an elder in one of my old congregations saying something to the effect that "how could evolution be true, if men evolved before women...blah blah" you get the picture.. i have refreshed my memory of a chapter in nick lane's excellent book "life arising - the ten greatest inventions of evolution" and put together a summary.
it would be great if others would add to it - cantleave, adam, tiktaalik, s&r, bohm et al?.
here is my starter focusing on the problem with non-sexual selection.... if the driving force in evolution is the struggle of selfish genes to pass on copies of themselves to future generations, then sex seems counter-productive.

BTW cofty - nice work in turning my suggestion of male bias on its head - I stand corrected.
